The Lungau is famous for its many picturesque parks, running and Nordic Walking trails, as well as its great hiking opportunities.
Wonderful worlds of running in St. Michael - for beginning runners and pros
Nine different routes - from 2 to 28 km in length -serving up sporting challenges and nature experiences for runners and Nordic walkers.
A free running and walking map, as well as Nordic walking poles (security deposit required) are available from the tourist office in St. Michael.
SAMSONMAN RUN on 28 August 2010 in St. Michael
This year's SAMSONMAN run is already in the starting blocks and preparations are in high gear.
"Pros amongst Pros" half-marathon ( 21.1 km) will be held as part of the VolksLauf Cup sponsored by s Bausparkasse! Ambitious hobby runners can put their talent to the test in the 10.5 km Everyman Run, while more laid-back participants are invited to tackle a 10 km Nordic-Walking course (untimed). The littlest racers can show us what they are made of in the famous Kids' Run over 750 m.

- Half-marathon: 11 am
- Every Man Run and Nordic Walking: 11:30 am
- Kids' Run: 10 am

Certified Nordic walking trail network in Mariapfarr
The sunniest town in Austria also boasts the country's biggest certified network of Nordic walking trails. At a total length of 120 km, you will find 15 clearly posted routes ranging from 3.1 km to 14.5 km in length.
A map is available for just € 3 from the tourist office in Mariapfarr.

At area sports shops, as well as in each of these communities, it is possible to rent out Nordic walking poles at no charge. In the Nature Fitness Park, you can get in your exercise whenever you please, though trails are only partially cleared in winter !

NORDIC FITNESS PARK in Schönfeld
Nordic Fitness Park Schönfeld is yet another unique opportunity in the Lungau, since in winter it invites you to try your hand at some Nordic sports disciplines. Medical studies have shown that exercise above the 1500-meter-mark has clear health benefits - so when you are working out at 1,740 m above sea level, you will see rapid improvements in your endurance, cardiovascular condition, immune system and many other areas.
