Winter paradise for big and small
From winter hikes on romantic winter hiking trails - in St. Margarethen, you can also attend a wildlife feeding– to llama trekking, horseback riding, and sleigh rides. And whenever you’ve had enough of frozen water, you can make a detour to the BadeINSEL in Tamsweg: The youngsters are in the best of hands at the Lungau’s childcare facilities: the ski schools also offer a comprehensive program, including for non-skiers – and through referrals, daycare can also be organized.
Wildlife feeding in the Alpine Animal Park
One of many special experiences is a visit to the wildlife feedings at the Alpine Animal Park – “Almdorf-Lungau” Schlögelberger in St. Margarethen. In winter, you can watch at close range the red deer, sika deer, and ibex as they feed. If you want to attend the feeding, you should arrive at Gasthof Schlögelberger by no later than 4 pm. Discipline and calm are really important during the feeding! The animals have become accustomed to visitors but will shy away from unusual movements and sounds. The landlord and landlady are looking forward to your visit, and love to pamper their guests with a variety of game dishes and other delicacies. From the sunny terrace, you have a beautiful view of Murtal valley. Freshly invigorated, it’s back to town by foot or with the sleigh.

Wooden toys & woodturning
The kind, cozy atmosphere you might otherwise associate with Pinocchio’s father, Gepetto, prevails throughout this workshop. It smells of glue and wood, and mischief flashes from Matthias Gappmayer’s eyes when, with his enigmatic smile, he shows off his wooden toys and funny tricks. The wooden toys, the cute, tricky games, as well as a variety of useful pieces – all of which he has made himself – are always sure to meet with the approval of both young and old.
