THE Obertauern SKI AREA
Even more so than the many celebrities who regularly visit this ski area, the brilliant facilities and networking of the lifts have made a huge contribution to Obertauern's reputation as a perfect ski center. From practically anywhere in town, you are just a few minutes away from all the skiing action. The lifts are so perfectly interconnected that you can ride all of the area's pistes either in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, and always return to your original starting point. It is known as the "Tauernrunde", essentially a perpetual motion skiing machine, unique in all of the Alpine world. This ski circuit benefits from 26 modern gondolas and ski lifts, functioning as feeder lifts and a connection between around 100 kilometers of pistes.
