Exhibition (M)ursprung in the national park community
nature in the river
The Mur, Austria's second-longest river, emerges with primal power in Muhr, a community located inside the National Park. The headwaters of the Mur serve as the starting point for an array of obervations and experiences: A unique high-alpine nature sanctuary, created over the course of millions of years, rich in animal life and pristine nature, meets an ancient cultural landscape tht has been harnessed by mankind for millennia, itself giving birth to countless unique features. Only upon closer inspection do the underlying natural and culural processes and their significance for future development become apparent.

Old mill / trattnermühle mill in St. Margarethen
This is the last remaining mill along the Karlsbergbach and served as a community mill for several farmers until the 1950s. Because the water level in the stream changed over the course of the year, it was a so-called „cloudburst mill“, which would often stand still for many weeks. During this time, the empty room inside the mill often attracted hobos, refugees, or lovers. The mill was built in the 17th century.
