Göriach, nestled in the Radstädter Tauern, is a perfect starting point for winter hikes and cross-country skiing tours in the UNESCO Biosphere Park Salzburg Lungau Region. The winter hiking trail along the lovely brook Göriachbach promises unforgettable moments in a snow-covered fairytale landscape.

Highlights in Göriach

On Shrove Sunday, an ancient custom is celebrated in Göriach: the carnival race. From 8 in the morning, masked figures parade from house to house to chase away the winter spirits. The procession starts from two sides – Vordergöriach and Hintergöriach – and makes for a lively spectacle.

The bear takes center stage, led by its bear guide in white clothing and wearing a straw hat. Accompanied by figures such as the Krapfenmandl, the devil, the chimney sweep, and the hunter, a fixed ritual is repeated from year to year: the hunter "shoots" the bear, whereupon the village shouts "Mei keat da Bär!". Following that, the children collect donations.
