The Preber region
The Preber area in the Salzburg Lungau region is an incomparable natural paradise and impresses with its untouched landscape. At its heart lies the 5.6-hectare Prebersee lake, nestling between an idyllic moorland landscape at 1,514 meters above sea level. The alpine moorland lake is part of the Niedere Tauern landscape conservation area and is one of the natural jewels in the UNESCO Biosphere Park Salzburg Lungau Region and Carinthian Nockberge.
The gentle moorland landscape is surmounted by the striking summit of Preber, which at 2,740 meters is one of the highest peaks in the Schladminger Tauern range. On a clear day, the panorama at the summit is indescribable, revealing the immense expanse of the surrounding mountains.
