With the occupation of the Alpine countries of Christ's birth also the Lungau came under Roman rule and under the spell of their culture. In "In Muris", today Mauterndorf, two streets met - one came from Carinthia and the other of Styria ago - both united to cross the Tauern.
Nearly a dozen Roman milestones was found alone in the Lungau, but also other excavations testify the stay of the Romans in Lungau.
