The Advent season in Salzburger Lungau is a particularly calm and peaceful time. As the first snow covers the the landscape in a soft, white blanket and the days grow shorter, the anticipation of Christmas begins to set in.
Christmas traditions and regional dishes enchant visitrs of all ages. In this area, between the Radstädter Tauern and the Carinthian Nock Mountains, traditional customs are still lived as they were generations ago.

High up in the mountains, surrounded by untouched nature, you can experience an unforgettable Advent magic – a seven-kilometer romantic, illuminated winter hiking trail at 1,750 meters that will make hearts beat faster. You can reach the start of the Advent trail either by foot or comfortably via a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride.

Silent Night, Holy Night
From 1815 to 1817, Joseph Mohr served as a curate in the Lungau parish of Mariapfarr, during which time he wrote the lyrics to his world-famous Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night."
In the historic rooms of the old parsonage, the Mariapfarr Parish and Pilgrimage Museum houses valuable exhibits, a documentation of Joseph Mohr, and a nativity scene with figures from the 18th century.
At the Parish, Pilgrimage, and Silent Night Museum in Mariapfarr, you can learn all about Joseph Mohr and the famous Christmas song.
