Summertime in a National Park Village
Austria's second-longest river, the Mur, emerges in the upper Murwinkel at 1898 m above sea level, in the middle of Hohe Tauern National Park. In the village itself, you will also discover the exhibition (M)Ursprung – Natur im Fluss.
140 km of hiking paths within the community itself as well as in upper Murtal, leading to 5 alpine tarns, waterfalls, natural monuments, summits and high peaks, all just waiting to be explored.
In order to protect and preserve these magnificent virgin landscapes, the upper Murtal-Muritzental is closed to private vehicles.
The valley bus, however, provides convenient transportation. In upper Murtal, next to the Sticklerhütte, you will find the start of the famous Mur Bike Path, taking you from Muhr all the way to Bad Radkersburg.
Winter Paradise
Muhr is the starting point of the Murtal cross-country trail and also offers extensive opportunities for ice skating and ice stock, including under the lights.
In upper Murtal, ski tourers and ice climbers are always busily exploring. The big Lungau ski areas are just ca. 15 km from Muhr and easy to reach using the free ski bus.
Winter fairytales, natural wonders, magical landscapes, glistening snow crystals along the banks of the River Mur, as well as icy waterfalls: You will find them all in the National Park Village of Muhr.
