The gentle tranquility of Advent

Advent in Salzburger Lungau is an especially peaceful and reflective time of year.

Christmas traditions and regional delicacies captivate all visitors, big and small. Here, between the mountains of the Radstädter Tauern and Carinthian Nockberge, beloved folk customs are as much a part of today's world as they have been for countless generations.

The season of peace

LUNGAU ADVENT MARKETS

At market stands made of fragrant spruce, the smells of twigs, tree resin, cinnamon, nutmeg, fruit bread, gingerbread, vanilla cookies, roasted chestnuts, bratwurst, bacon and freshly baked bread captivate completely. Christmas decorations and hand-crafted, -knitted and -felted items, together with Nativity scenes, evoke memories of Christmases past.

Parish, Pilgrimage & Silent Night Museum

"Silent Night! Holy Night!"

From 1815 to 1817, Joseph Mohr served as an assistant priest in the Lungau community of Mariapfarr. During this time, he wrote the text of the world-famous Christmas song "Silent Night".

Housed in the historic rooms of the old parsonage is the Mariapfarr Parish & Pilgrimage Museum, featuring valuable exhibits, documentation about Joseph Mohr as well as a Nativity scene with figures that date back to the 18th century.

At the Parish, Pilgrimage & Silent Night Museum in Mariapfarr, you will learn all about Joseph Mohr and the beloved Christmas song "Silent Night"
