Relaxation in the Dreamy Village of Thomatal

Thomatal, a quiet gem in the Salzburg Lungau region, offers everything you need for a restful summer vacation. Surrounded by the rolling hills of the Nockberge mountains and blooming alpine meadows, it invites you to enjoy relaxing hikes and walks.

Thomatal is a place that enchants with its natural tranquillity and incomparable landscape, especially in winter. Nestling between snow-covered fields, forests, and rolling hills, the village invites you to enjoy idyllic winter hikes along the meandering Kremsbach creek.

Schönfeld, not far from Thomatal, at 1,730 meters above sea level is an ideal starting point for hikes and trekking tours. The clear, low-allergenic air and the spicy scents of Swiss stone pines create a special nature experience. Here you will find a unique combination of blossoming landscape, pristine wildlife, and a peaceful atmosphere – perfect for recharging your batteries and leaving everyday life behind you.

Highlights in Thomatal

The Josefshütte in Schönfeld was originally used as a barn to store fodder for the oxen used in ore mining. In 1984, Father Valentin Pfeifenberger celebrated a mass there for the first time. On the priest's 80th birthday in 1994, the hut was renovated and furnished with an altar, bells, and sacred artworks.

The hut burned down in 2007, but the local population collected donations to rebuild it. The Josefshütte has been re-edified since 2009 and now serves as an alpine church. It commemorates Father Valentin and his close connection to this special place.
