The Salzburger Lungau region is situated at an altitude of over 1,000 meters above sea level, which means that it is meteorologically favored and therefore guarantees particularly reliable snow conditions. This is also important for cross-country skiing, the Salzburg Lungau region has the snow-covered Lignitz trail high above Mariapfarr in addition to the high-altitude trails at Prebersee and in Schönfeld.
For an undisturbed cross-country skiing experience, a general ban on hiking, horse riding, and dogs applies on the cross-country ski trails.
